Bwindi Raha Foundation

Uganda

Uganda is best known as the land of gorillas. It is also at the heart of Africa New Explorers’ activities. Visiting Uganda is an experience beyond the wonderful discovery of the bush and Bwindi is also home to a project that is closest to Blanche’s heart: Bwindi Raha Foundation. Through exchanges with CEO Joshua, the wonderful and knowledgeable head guide of the Bwindi forest gorilla trekking, travellers can realise the possibility of helping the local villagers through sustainable tourism.

No heavy and costly structure, no distant and unrealistic goals. It’s all about putting local people and travellers in direct contact with each other, which makes for a far more personal and meaningful experience.

Some travellers have connected most with the children and donated items such as football jerseys, cleats, and school supplies. Others have connected more with the displaced refugee families and helped build and repair shelters and provide some of the much-needed supplies for daily life. Even some of Africa New Explorer travellers, who are skilled surgeons by trade, have offered invaluable medical advice.

Every gesture counts and Joshua’s deep attachment to his community will help each person connect with the people or part of the land that speaks to them the most. Thanks to Blanche and Joshua, it’s possible to see first-hand the value of every contribution.

Traveling to Uganda does not mean an extra donation is expected, however taking some school supplies, toys and sports equipment with you will surely be welcomed by everyone.

A portion of every journey booked with Africa New Explorers is donated to the foundation.
